Cromox STAINLESS STEEL318LN DIN 766 Duplex Windlass Chain 8mm or 5/16" by 10'
This is a quality, high grade, marine stainless steel (AISI 318LN Duplex) DIN766 chain specifically manufactured for use in a windlass as anchor chain or other marine applications where high corrosion resistance is desired. Superb for anchor chain, lifting chain and general heavy duty work in a marine or chemically harsh environment.
The link size is 8mm or 5/16” imperial equivalent. This listing is for one ten foot length. Every 3 feet links are hallmarked "Cromox" on the otherside a traceability code currently "A5". The Cromox brand stands for innovative quality made by Ketten Walder GmbH.
This 318 Duplex Stainless Steel Anchor Chain fully complies with DIN 766. This Cromox Duplex chain has a Working Load Limit rating more than twice that of 316 chain and is considerably more corrosion resistant.
Chain size: 8mm x 24mm. See detailed specifications below. If you are intending to use this chain with a windlass please check the requirements of your windlass gypsie to ensure it accepts metric (DIN 766) chain. Some manufacturers call this chain "BBB".
G4 and G43 are both Imperial specifications and all are different. Some imperial gypsies have difficulties with metric chain.
This chain does not pile in the chain locker like a galvanized chain does, the bright polish finish allows the chain to fill the chain locker with considerably less piling. The bright finish also helps the chain to come up from a muddy bottom cleaner, as mud and dirt does not stick to the chain as easily as regular chain.
Why Duplex? The major benefit for going to a higher grade duplex chain is that the weight of chain being carried can be reduced for no reduction in strength.
Duplex stainless steels are extremely corrosion resistant, work hardened alloys. The microstructures consist of austenite and ferrite phases. As a result, duplex stainless steels display properties characteristic of both austenitic (304 is typical) and ferritic (430 is typical) stainless steels. Strengths of duplex stainless steel are typically double the strength of austenitic stainless steels. Duplex also has improved resistance to localized corrosion, particularly pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. They are characterized by high chromium (21-23%) and molybdenum (2.5 – 3.5%) and lower nickel (4.5% -6.5%) contents than austenitic stainless steels.
Duplex steels are also magnetic, a property than can be used to easily differentiate them from common austenitic grades of stainless.
This chain meets or exceeds all standards for DIN766 and is calibrated for use in a windlass or gypsie. The chain is proof tested, calibrated and bright polished.
AISI 318LN Duplex stainless is the premium grade of marine stainless and is considered by many to be best in class. 318 stainless is corrosion resistant and very durable even in the harshest of conditions.
This chain has a pitting resistance number (PREN or PRE) of 35. Pitting or pitting corrosion is a form of localized corrosion that leads to the creation of small holes in the metal. The higher the PRE the more corrosion resistance the steel has. This chain is highly corrosion resistant even in low oxygen environments.
This chain is graded G60 and is proof tested at two and a half times the working load limit. This chain is ideal for heavy duty work and has a higher tensile strength than G30 or G40 stainless and is rated for overhead lifting.
Manufactured from AISI 318LN Stainless Steel. This Cromox Duplex chain is significantly stronger than Commercial Stainless Steel Chain (304, 316 and 430). This duplex chain is rated for overhead lifting.
Each chain has been subjected to a Proof Load of two and a half times the Working Load Limit. Each chain is stamped with the batch number and test certificates are available for traceability and conformance purposes.
Windlass Calibrated Chain (for use in Gypsies), Tie Down Chain, Shade Sails, Dragging Chains, Sewage Pump Lifting Chain, Other applications where standard commercial chains is not suitable.
